Poetry Open Mic
Hosted by Phylisha Villaneuva and Naajidah Correll
This Poetry Open Mic evening is intended to include participation by both teens and adults, extending the floor to all poets from the community who share the hosts’ passion for offering a safe and creative environment to share their talents. Both Phylisha Villaneuva and Naajidah Correll are seniors at Saunders High School and are dedicated to making this a successful event for all ! As a gallery dedicated to the support and presentation of all forms of creative modalities within and for our community, we welcome artists and song writers that might use this night as inspiration to create and share with the audience. It would be an influencial and powerful experience to witness artists create work as a result of poetry in motion.Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm

The Art of Cardboard: A Performance by Marcy B. Freedman
A SPOOF.....WITH EDUCATIONAL VALUE!
Including an art historical analysis of cardboard art and a LIVE demonstration of how to make great art using old pizza boxes and other cardboard refuse.
Time: 2:00 pm
Marcy B. Freedman is an artist and art historian. She is known locally for her work in both of these fields. Within the past year alone, her art has been shown in Peekskill, Croton on Hudson, Katonah, Tarrytown, New Rochelle and Garrison. During this same time period, she has presented art history lectures in Chappaqua, Scarsdale and Katonah – on a wide range of topics.
For the past several months, Freedman has been creating dozens and dozens of cardboard sculptures and doing research to strengthen her knowledge of the history of sculpture in western art. The culmination of this period of work will be her performance in Yonkers. She describes her presentation as follows:
"My performance at Blue Door Gallery will be both serious and silly. I will incorporate factual information about masters of sculpture – from Michelangelo to Richard Serra – into a presentation about my own misadventures with the creation of cardboard sculptures. Additionally, I will show the audience how to make their own little masterpieces using cast-off materials, such as empty cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls."
